BECAUSE OF H.E.R.
In the Fall of 2017, Jamilah attended a writers workshop. From here, a spark was ignited within her to write a story. Anything that she does in life, Jamilah ensures that it is meaningful to her. Therefore, she knew she had to write about something that she is passionate about. In addition, she wanted people to be able to connect and relate to her story. Jamilah thought of her little sister Aasiyah ( Ah-Se-Ya) and the impact she has had on her life. From there, Because of H.E.R. came into fruition.

MEET THE AUTHOR
Jamilah F. Bashir is a native of Philadelphia, PA. In 2006, she earned her Bachelors degree in Special Education from Widener University. In addition, she earned two Master degrees, one in Education in 2009 and the second in Educational Leadership in 2017 from Saint Joseph’s University. She has over ten years of experience as a Special Education Teacher and has taught at all levels, i.e., elementary and secondary. Along with being a certified Special Education Teacher, Jamilah has acquired additional certifications: Reading Specialist, ESL Program Specialist, Principal, Supervisor of Special Education, and Supervisor of Curriculum to broaden her skills. In 2016, Jamilah received the Special Education Award, at United Muslim Masjid’s (UMM) 18th Annual Sisters Recognition Luncheon and Fashion Show. The award was in recognition for her hard work and commitment to ensuring that all children meet their educational potential.
